Just Bead It FAQ-Spacer Beads

Raise your hand if you know what the “hot, new thing” is in beading…If you answered “Interchangeable watch bands!” then give yourself a pat on the back!

One of the materials needed for this project that you will hear a lot about is: spacer bars. For those of you who haven’t heard of them, read on to learn something new. But for the rest of you, let’s see if we can clear up some misunderstandings about these mysterious little findings.

First of all, spacer BARS are not to be confused with spacer BEADS. Bars are (basically) flat pieces of metal with 3-4 holes in them and are meant to hold multiple strands apart; whereas spacer beads are simply beads (generally metal) that can be put between your regular beads to spice up the look of your project. Spacer beads come in all shapes, sizes and designs.

The second question people seem to have about spacer bars is: “Why are there three (or four) holes in them when I’m only going to do a two strand watch?” We need to remember that these two strand, interchangeable watch bands are a fairly new project. Spacer bars were NOT designed with this project in mind. As I said before, bars are meant to hold multiple strands apart. That means that your imagination doesn’t have to be limited to watch bands alone! Try designing a multi-strand bracelet then bring it in to the bead shop, I love to see your ideas!

Join us on May 5th at 6pm to make your very own watch band!
