Bead It FAQ

I get so many customers in the shop wanting to know how to wire wrap! The finished look of a wire wrapped piece gives the appearance that it is very difficult when in reality it is such a simple technique!
I’ll let you in on a little known secret: the only limit to wire wrapping is your own imagination! Learning to wire wrap simply means playing with it and seeing what you like. If your stone has a hole drilled in it, you can start by running a craft wire through the stone and making a wrapped loop at the top to create a bail. (I recommend the 20 gauge German wire by Bead-Smith, but we carry several different types and colors of craft wire.) Then it is a simple matter of bending, twisting, looping and zig-zagging the wire until you like the look. To end it you can bend the end of the wire over another piece of wire or just swirl the end into a curly-Q. It’s that easy!

Just Bead It-FAQ

Here’s a common question: What’s the difference between 7 strand wire, 21 strand wire, or 49 strand wire?
The answer is quite simple. Those numbers refer to how many strands make up that wire. I know what you’re thinking: This wire looks like one strand to me!
Imagine that you could look at a cross section of that wire under a microscope. You would see that it is actually made up of several tiny strands ranging from 7, to 19, to 21 or even 49 depending on the manufacturer. Now you’re wondering: What difference does that make?
I have learned that the more strands in that wire, the more flexible it is. The benefit of this is that more flexible wire will hang nicer for a softer effect. Now, does a higher strand count make the wire stronger? No, not necessarily. For that information you will want to check the package for what is called the “break”. This is how many pounds of pressure it takes for the wire to break. (For example, you might see something like: 12 lb. break.)
We have recently added the Flex-Rite line of wire. This wire is so soft and flexible that it feels almost like thread! Come check it out and let me know what you think!

Memory Wire

Just Bead IT: FAQ

I’m sure that all of us have, at some point, been looking around our favorite bead shop, (Just Bead IT at Sierra’s!) and seen Memory Wire or Remembrance Wire and wondered just exactly what it is.
How many of us have played with that classic toy, Slinky? If you have, then you know what memory wire is! Memory wire is wire that has been tempered to hold its shape. The wonderful thing about this is that you don’t have to use any kind of clasp. Simply glue memory wire end caps on the ends and viola! It holds its shape and stays on.
I do, however, highly recommend that if you’re going to work with memory wire, invest in memory wire cutters. It doesn’t look all that tough, but trust me, if you want a smooth, quick cut-you need this tool!

CLASS INFO
On May 12th at 6pm we will be making memory wire charm bracelets. Come join us for only $11.00! See you then!
