Disney stamps

Just Arrived! Disney Character Clear Stamps.
Now you can do a lot of pages or cards with Disney Mickey Mouse, the princess collection, Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hallow Fairies.

**Clear stamps are easy to use. Just peel them off the clear backer sheet and position them on a clear acrylic block (sold separately). The clear acrylic block allows you to stamp accurately, because it allows you to see exactly where you need to place the stamp. We find it hard to see where to stamp with a wooden or a foam back block. Crystal Clear Acrylics takes out the Guesswork!!
Once you are done stamping, clean the stamps and let them dry. Replace them to the backer sheet to store for future use. **

Just Bead It FAQ-Spacer Beads

Raise your hand if you know what the “hot, new thing” is in beading…If you answered “Interchangeable watch bands!” then give yourself a pat on the back!

One of the materials needed for this project that you will hear a lot about is: spacer bars. For those of you who haven’t heard of them, read on to learn something new. But for the rest of you, let’s see if we can clear up some misunderstandings about these mysterious little findings.

First of all, spacer BARS are not to be confused with spacer BEADS. Bars are (basically) flat pieces of metal with 3-4 holes in them and are meant to hold multiple strands apart; whereas spacer beads are simply beads (generally metal) that can be put between your regular beads to spice up the look of your project. Spacer beads come in all shapes, sizes and designs.

The second question people seem to have about spacer bars is: “Why are there three (or four) holes in them when I’m only going to do a two strand watch?” We need to remember that these two strand, interchangeable watch bands are a fairly new project. Spacer bars were NOT designed with this project in mind. As I said before, bars are meant to hold multiple strands apart. That means that your imagination doesn’t have to be limited to watch bands alone! Try designing a multi-strand bracelet then bring it in to the bead shop, I love to see your ideas!

Join us on May 5th at 6pm to make your very own watch band!

Bead Reamers

In this edition, we will discuss a solution to this problem: The holes in my beads are too small!
When you buy beads on a strand, it is natural to assume that all of the holes are drilled correctly. But threads and monofilaments can easily slip through some of the smallest and roughest holes. However this is NOT true of beading wires or headpins.
Have you heard of bead reamers? Bead reamers are a must have tool for enlarging, de-burring, or rounding out bead holes.
There are many different types of bead reamers ranging from the most basic, to battery operated. Some are coated with diamond dust which is coarser and provides a more aggressive cutting action; while some are very fine, with a corkscrew-like file for enlarging holes in pearls.
Once you’ve tried a bead reamer, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
And so ends another edition of: Just Bead IT-FAQ

Bead It FAQ

Frequently Asked Question:
How do I prevent my wire from breaking when I attach it to my jewelry endings?

The Answer is simple: Wire Guards

A wire guard is a horseshoe shaped finding that protects your wire from undue wear and tear by reducing abrasion from clasps or other sharp-edged components.
So how does one use a wire guard? String the wire up through the crimp, then up and over the top of the wire guard. Hook the wire guard over the clasp and then run the wire back down through the crimp. Tighten and pinch crimp. The wire guard now lies between the wire and the clasp providing a protective barrier.
That ends this edition of Just Bead It-FAQ

Bead It FAQ

The number one most frequently Asked Question in the Bead Shop is:
“What is the difference between a jump ring (sometimes referred to as an “O” ring) and a split ring (looks like a mini key ring)?

Answer:
A jump ring is a ring that has been “opened” for easy attachment. Using pliers, simply pry the ring apart at the opening and attach to a clasp, use as a jewelry ending or ust toconnect jewelry pieces. Then, using pliers bring the ring back together
Jump ring pro-it’s very easy to use. Jump ring con-it can be difficult to get the ring to stay closed. Therefore you run the ristk of having it come off and possible losing anything that ws attached to it.
As mentioned before, a split ring looks like a mini key ring. Using split ring pliers (or your fingernail-OUCH!) separate the ring and use anyplace you might usa a jumpring
Split ring pro-it’s very secure and wont’ easily fall off. Split ring con-it can be very difficult to use. Especially without the proper tool.

Hope that answers this week’s Just Bead IT-FAQ

Easy and Simple Easter Recipe

Trying to figure out what to prepare for Easter Sunday dinner, and still save some money?  How about an old-fashioned ham -- complete with the bone so that you can make sandwiches, omelets, and soup for "leftovers"!

If you prepare a bone-in ham, you will usually spend less for a comparable amount of product, because you have eliminated the need for the labor to trim / slice / spiral / shape - - - all of the things that are done for you when you buy a pre-cut ham.  So, shop for a bone-in butt end (more meat, less bone) or shank (more bone, fewer nice servings) ham.  Figure about 1/2 lb / person when you purchase the ham.  If you want more leftovers -- buy a bigger ham.

The ham is already pre-cooked, so you really only need to get it nicely heated throughout.  Set your oven to 350 degrees.  Unwrap the ham, making sure to remove any plastic-like coverings or supports.  Place the ham on a trivet inside your roasting pan, laying it so that the side with the most fat is on top.  It will take 2 to 2 1/2 hours for an 8 - 10 pound ham to get fully heated.  When you're ready to serve the ham, move the entire ham to a large serving platter and carve it at the table!

Twice-Baked potatoes make a great accompaniment to the ham, and these can be prepared ahead of time and then heated with the ham before serving.

Twice-Baked Potatoes (@8 servings)

6 large Idaho Baking Potatoes
1/2 cup butter (better for you than margarine and it tastes better)
or Smart Balance (South Beach diet approved)
1 cup sour cream (reg, lite or fat free)
2 tbsp to 1/4 cup milk to thin (if needed)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white or black pepper
1 tsp pure horseradish (optional)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar (or other) cheese
1/4 cup finely diced green onion (tops included)

Heat the oven to 425 degrees.  Wash the potatoes to remove any dirt, and then prick them once with a fork to allow the steam to escape.  Place in the heated oven and bake for 45 - 50 minutes.  You should be able to squeeze them slightly when you test them.

Remove the potatoes from the oven and place them on a cutting board.  While they are still hot, cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out the potato being careful not to break the skins.  Using a mixer, whip the potatoes and butter to break them up.  Add the sour cream and any milk needed to thin the potatoes.  The texture should be thicker than mashed potatoes when you finish.  Add the salt, pepper, horseradish, onions, and cheese and mix thoroughly.

Scoop the potato mixture into the reserved skins, filling them to create a nicely rounded top.  You will likely have 3 to 4 potato-skin halves left over.  Save these and prepare them for a snack tossed lightly in olive oil, salt and pepper, and roasted in the oven at 425 degree for 12 - 15 minutes.

Once you have the twice-baked potatoes prepared you can put them in freezer and when frozen, bag them to serve at a later date.  If you are serving the potatoes later the same day, refrigerate them, and then heat in the oven at 325 to 350 degrees for about 20 minutes so that they are slightly browned on top!  Enjoy!
