Tips for sewing with knits

KWIK-SEW shares a few tips on sewing with knits. We carry a line of Michael Miller cotton knits that make a great fashion statement. KWIK-SEW patterns are the best on the market. If you don't find the pattern you are looking for, we can special order from their catalog.

Tip:

Pre-wash the fabric exactly as you plan to care for the finished garment. Knits have a tendency to shrink and extra fabric may be needed to allow for shrinkage.

The greatest degree of stretch is usually on the crosswise grain. When cutting, place pattern pieces on the fabric with the arrow on top of the grain line in the same direction and be sure to place pattern pieces with the stretch of fabrics as marked on the pattern. Cut out pieces with a sharp pair of shears or a rotary cutter.

Check for more tips for sewing with knits next tuesday!

Activity and Bead Board

Renee' and Emma thought they would design a fun activity board that helps keep everything together. The boards have an inset so if you are using it for beading or making beady buddies your beads are on felt and won't roll off because of the lip. Add the cup hook to hold your cording. These are great for playing dice games and children games that require the kids to roll dice. That way the dice won't roll off the table and everyone has to go find them.
Perfect size for building our mini puzzles from Sunsout.
Use in the car while traveling, at home on your lap, in the hospital and on a camping trip.

Supplies:

  • 1 unfinshed wood board with 7 x 15 insert

  • such as SPC SCH302/303

  • 7 x 15 inch felt

  • Paint and paint brush

  • 12 x 12 designer paper

  • Decoupage sealer

  • Glue of choice

  • Cuphook (optional)

Directions:

  • Paint outside and inside edges of frame...Let dry

  • Cut designer paper to fit top edge of board

  • Glue strips around top edge of frame

  • Brush on sealer over entire frame to seal....Let dry

  • Glue the felt piece inside the frame

Optional idea:

Add cup hook to middle of an inside edge to provide a connectomg point for cording, Rexlace, or other craft project.
